Chapter #5: Instent Instagram

Image
Chapter #5:       Instagram is by far my favorite social media platform. It is what made me realize I want to study social media. I love all the cool features that they have to offer. Like stories and the ability to highlight them, reels, and tagging. I know I will get caught in the Instagram rabbit hole often and not even realize it.       I first made an Instagram account back when Instagram first started to pop up at the ripe age of ten. I know that I really had no business being on Instagram in 3rd grade given that I literally was posting photoshoots of my American Girl Dolls. My mom didn't even really understand that I shouldn't have been on Instagram because social media was so new and a foreign concept to most. If I remember correctly she didn't even make an account until a while after I did.     I now realize that since I got Instagram when I was so young that was not the normal then but certainly is now. My younger cousin and sister also got Instagram around the s

Week 6: Orange & Black Day and Greek Awards

Image
This past weekend I signed up on a wim to work Alpha Phi Omega's table at Ohio Northern's accepted student day, Orange & Black Day. Orange and Black Day is the main time for accepted seniors who are both committed to ONU or considering enrolling here to check out campus. They have events all day for those future polar bears including dorm tours, academic sessions, and the organization fair where I was volunteering.       I honestly hardly remember my Orange & Black day due to the nerves and anxiety I felt during my senior year about getting ready to move away to college.  From what I had remembered about that day was seeing all the tables of the organizations that were offered on campus. I was already nervous that day so I didn't look around as much as I maybe should've then.       It almost felt surreal talking to new polar bears about Alpha Phi Omega. I was almost in like shock because I felt so much deja vu when I walked into the fieldhouse through the gi

Chapter #4: Facebook Fun

Image
Chapter #4:     I don't know about you all but my mom and grandma have been chronicling everything about my sister Ruby and I growing up by making a Facebook post just anything about either of us would do especially when we were younger. There are probably HUNDREDS of awful Facebook photos of us between both of them.      I know that out of all my social media knowledge, Facebook is the one I know the least about. If I were to make assumptions about Facebook like most it would be stereotypically labeled as for moms or parent-aged individuals.      This is actually not the case though. Facebook is actually the most used social media and is most popular with the demographic ages 25-34. Facebook actually has more males than females. At 14% more males than females, it is something I would never have guessed.          Facebook is probably one of the more user-friendly social media platforms. It is easy to set up for the average person by just creating a username and password or signing

Week 5: Ruby at Northern Recap

Image
Over this past weekend, my sister drove up to Northern and we had a BLAST! She happened to have a long weekend for Presidents Day so I asked her to come visit me.       As she starts to now look at colleges as a junior in High School I wanted to show her what an average weekend in college looks like for me.       She drove up early Friday afternoon due to the snow starting. Once she got here we first unloaded her car because I had her bring me some groceries from home. Once we did that we moved her car to the visitor lot and got an early dinner at WOW because again I wanted Ruby to really get the collage feel.  We pretty much just hung out around my room and the Theta house over the weekend especially since it was FREEZING and snowing. She of course ended up getting the worst weather of the season while being here. The weather definitely gave her that Northern feel and I think gave her some insight into the college reality. While she was here I also of course took her to MAC so sh

Chapter #3: Social Media Marketing & Advertising

Image
Chapter #3     In Chapter 3 of our book, it covers all about  Social Media Marketing & Advertising. When using Social Media Marketing to advertise there are ten key steps to use. We discussed steps one through five in class, so I will be discussing steps six through ten.       In step six the goal is to simply pick or select the chosen platform for the advertising. From Instagram to Facebook to Snapchat to Pinterest to Linked In there are several platforms that create content. There is a purpose and goal to choose the right platform for your chosen content that will be released. Each platform reaches a different audience and has its own language.      Step seven is to create and optimize social media networks. To create and optimize social media you should really fill the social media account with everything. From profile pictures, bios, links, consistent posting, and things you may not think about like creating usernames or adding a location there are so many ways to optimize soci

Week 4: A Reset Week

Image
Another week here at Ohio Northern and it's much more chill compared to the last few weeks. I've been working on a lot of schoolwork these past few days.  Along with that I am also currently prepping for my younger sister Ruby to come visit this weekend.      I definitely didn't expect prepping for my sister to visit would take a s much time as it has. Cleaning, laundry, making a food plan, and figuring out what to do. Now I know how my mom must feel when we have visitors at home. I just want my sister to have fun and get a feel for college while she starts to look at colleges as a soon-to-be High School senior.       Although Ruby has made it very clear she does not want to go to school here at Ohio Northern I've learned to give up my hope of her joining me here. I get it though we're both different people and it'll be good for both of us to get away and experience college by ourselves. I definitely will miss being around her though and hopefully, she feel

Week 3: Recruiting and Rush x2

Image
As I previously shared I am both a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and Alpha Phi Omega here at Ohio Northern University. This week happens to be Rush/Recruitment for both organizations. I love events like Rush where I get to meet all sorts of different people.       Starting out the week on Monday I started with a panhel meeting to get my mandatory meeting and service hour for panhel done. Straight afterwards my friend Melina who also happens to be the President of Alpha Phi Omega and I headed straight for the pharmacy building. Alpha Phi Omega has three key pillars, leadership, friendship, and service. Each rush event for APO is themed after one of the pillars. Monday's meeting was service-themed.       As a chapter and with possible new members we made pipe cleaner flowers for a local nursing home. It was harder than you might think to make these. The next two events of APO rush will be for the fellowship and leadership. There will be Movie Trivia night and making Paper Bag PiƱa
