Chapter #5: Instent Instagram

Parents' Ultimate Guide to Instagram | Common Sense Media
 Chapter #5:

Instagram is by far my favorite social media platform. It is what made me realize I want to study social media. I love all the cool features that they have to offer. Like stories and the ability to highlight them, reels, and tagging. I know I will get caught in the Instagram rabbit hole often and not even realize it.

I first made an Instagram account back when Instagram first started to pop up at the ripe age of ten. I know that I really had no business being on Instagram in 3rd grade given that I literally was posting photoshoots of my American Girl Dolls. My mom didn't even really understand that I shouldn't have been on Instagram because social media was so new and a foreign concept to most. If I remember correctly she didn't even make an account until a while after I did.

I now realize that since I got Instagram when I was so young that was not the normal then but certainly is now. My younger cousin and sister also got Instagram around the same age I did and I see so many young kids also with social media.

Social media, especially Instagram can be such a toxic place even with all the benefits it brings to many.  I know that now seeing as someone who got social media at such a young age that I will be more cautious when my future children come to me saying that they want to download social media.

With that being said I know Instagram is essential for many for various reasons. From business reasons to social reasons to news reasons to even entertainment reasons. I know that in this day and age, I wouldn't be able to live without it.

  1. I can totally relate and agree with the opening statements! Instagram is by far my favorite social media platform too, and it is what arose my curiosity to study social media. Instagram can definitely be a toxic environment, so I advise finding a healthy balance between Instagram and other lively activities. I think the reason you say "I wouldn't be able to live without it." is because our generation grew up with this type of technology, so we don't know a world without it. All in all, great post!
