Chapter #11:  TikTok

TikTok. I'm sure everyone reading this knows what TikTok is and how it works. A short explanation of what Tiktok is which is a short-form video content platform with a section for following and a for you page where the algorithm works to tailor videos to fit each individual.

I am sure you've all fallen victim to the TikTok rabbit hole or spiral. TikTok has a continuously active feed that keeps you scrolling for hours. The continuous feed is what keeps the platform so addictive.

TikTok has endless options to show your creativity and express yourself. Titok has the ability to now share up to ten minutes of video. It has been the fastest-growing social media platform globally, the most downloaded app from 2019-2023.

As for statistics, there are over 1 billion listeners. The largest age group on Tiktok is the 18-24 range with the male to female ratio being nearly even. The country that most uses TikTok is the United States despite it being owned by China.

TikTok has lately become a very important tool in marketing/advertising. TikTok helps reach a younger audience and build their brand in another way. On average TikTok says that on average active brands are reaching around 200,000 views a post with about a 9% engagement rate.

Now recently there has been talk of a Ban from the government in the United States that would essentially not allow users in the United States to access TikTok. As mentioned before as a country the United States has the most users on TikTok. But currently, we aren't sure what the future holds for us using Tiktok.

For now, I just would say to enjoy and use the benefits of TikTok while we can due to the possibility of not having the app anymore, and for now with over a billion users on TikTok, many brands have a huge chance/opportunity for businesses of all shapes and sizes to grow and increase their own visibility in many new ways.

  1. I totally agree! Thinking about the possibility of no longer having such a stable platform is crazy. I cannot imagine how much it would affect brands and their marketing strategies. However, we have it for now and let's enjoy it!
